Hopefully in early 2016 we'll see Intel's open-source Linux graphics driver hitting OpenGL 4.2~4.3 compliance! There will also be their launch-day Vulkan driver release as soon as the spec drop happens. Blocking Intel from having OpenGL 4.0 support is still ARB_gpu_shader_fp64 and ARB_tessellation_shader support, blocking them from OpenGL 4.1 is then ARB_vertex_attrib_64bit, and then after that they are good for OpenGL 4.2 and already then most of the way there for OpenGL 4.3. While there still is OpenGL ES 3.2 to catch up with, hopefully now they'll be able to focus a bit more on rounding out their OpenGL 4.x desktop support. OpenGL 4.3 is available on GeForce GTX 400, GTX 500 and GTX 600. OpenGL 4.3 specifications have been released yesterday at SIGGRAPH 2012 and NVIDIA gives us the first OpenGL 4.3 capable driver for those who want to play with new OpenGL stuff. Jordan Justen committed the last of the work today. NVIDIA R305.53 Beta: First OpenGL 4.3 Driver Available for Windows. As explained in that article, only Broadwell graphics hardware and newer are currently supported while Ivy Bridge and Haswell support will come in due time (there's still some outstanding work left for those older generations). OpenGL ES 3.1 support is now enabled by default for Intel Gen 8 "Broadwell" graphics hardware and newer in Mesa.Īs a follow-up to the article earlier this week about Intel having OpenGL ES 3.1 ready for their open-source driver, those last few patches have been merged.
